YarnTally vs Tally
TallyPrime is the default accounting software in India and the benchmark for statutory books. YarnTally is a browser-based operations system — stock, GST invoicing, payments and compliance — that runs on a phone and works without internet. Most businesses that use both keep Tally for the books and use YarnTally for the floor.

Where Tally is the better choice
Written by us, about a competitor. If one of these matters more to you than anything below, buy Tally — you will be happier and we will not have to refund you.
- Full double-entry statutory accounting — balance sheet, P&L, ledgers, audit trail. This is Tally's core and it is better than ours, because ours is not trying to be that.
- Universally understood. Almost every accountant in India can open a Tally file without being trained, which is a real cost you pay when you move away.
- Works entirely offline on a desktop with no dependence on a vendor staying in business — a perpetual licence keeps running if the company disappears.
- Vast ecosystem of resellers, trainers and add-on developers in almost every Indian city.
- Cheaper over a long horizon if you buy once and never upgrade: a ₹22,500 licence held for ten years costs less per year than any subscription.
Choose TallyPrime if your primary need is statutory accounting, your CA works in Tally, and you want a one-time licence you own outright. If the question is 'what do I give my auditor', the answer is usually Tally.
Where YarnTally is the better choice
- Runs in a browser and installs as a phone app. Nothing to install on a machine, nothing tied to one desk.
- Stock counting and damage reporting keep working with no signal and sync when it returns — the reason this was built in the first place.
- Industry operations built in rather than bolted on: CA practice management, clinic records, fleet compliance, coaching batches.
- Import/export compliance — EDPMS ageing against the RBI nine-month rule, FIRC allocation, LUT expiry, letters of credit — which Tally largely leaves to spreadsheets.
- An AI copilot that answers questions against your own data, plus a daily briefing and anomaly flags.
- Lower cash outlay to start: ₹999 for a working month against ₹22,500 plus GST up front.
Choose YarnTally if the work happens away from a desk — several godowns, staff on phones, patchy internet — and you need stock, billing and compliance in one place rather than books at the end of the quarter. Many customers run both.

Common questions
Can YarnTally replace Tally completely?
For most businesses, no — and we would rather say so. Tally is a statutory accounting system; YarnTally is an operations system covering stock, invoicing, payments and compliance. If you need a balance sheet your auditor will sign off, keep Tally. The common arrangement is YarnTally for day-to-day operations and Tally for the books, with data exported between them.
Is YarnTally cheaper than Tally?
In the first year, clearly: ₹11,988 on Starter against about ₹26,550 including GST for a TallyPrime Silver licence. Over five years Tally can work out cheaper, because a perpetual licence is bought once and TSS renewal is ₹4,500 a year. Whether that matters depends on whether you also need the things a licence does not cover.
Can I move my data from Tally to YarnTally?
Masters — customers, suppliers, items, opening stock — import by CSV, which Tally exports natively. Historical vouchers are not migrated; the usual approach is to close a period in Tally and open the next one in YarnTally rather than attempt a full history transfer.
Does YarnTally do e-way bills and e-invoicing like Tally?
E-way bill fields are generated on invoices. E-invoicing (IRN with signed QR) works through a GSP account — ClearTax, IRIS or Masters India — which you connect. Tally offers the same via its own integrations; neither includes the GSP subscription.
